FEBRUARY 2020 - OBWA NETWORKING AND DINNER MEETING

The Orillia Business Women’s Association (OBWA) meets every second Wednesday of the Month (September thru June) at the Best Western PLUS Mariposa INN and Conference Centre at 400 Memorial Ave. Orillia for networking events, fun and delicious food.

OBWA PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE  Love is in the air! We did it. We got through January! For some, this is a tough month similar to January. The after the holiday, try to get back to business month. But remember. This is the month of love. February is a special month with significance touching the secular, romantic, and spiritual realms. It is the shortest month of the year. The days are slowly getting longer. This year’s span is only 29 days. Also, Valentine’s Day falls on the 14th of this month. Let's focus on the positives. This is also the time of year when many people who are in direct sales start a new "season" which is always exciting. So, please keep us enlightened with what you are up to with your business and for those who do not have a business please keep posting lots of positivity on the OBWA face book page. We encourage you to continue to use the OBWA face book page to share about you and your business, any events or special occasions, or you can just share some personal goals, needs or milestones. Sharing and/or liking posts is definitely encouraged as this is a big part of our networking and it allows us to show support for one another. What better place to spend a night during the week that Valentine’s Day falls than with some of your women friends relaxing at a beautiful venue with a delicious meal prepared for you and no dishes to do and no cleanup. Maybe you will have a little wine or a cocktail and of course there will be lots of laughs. We will also have fun on the 12th chatting and networking. Get to know the members and especially help the newest members (and all members) feel welcome as this will be their first evening with us. We all know how awkward we felt walking into an unfamiliar place filled with strangers. Don't let that be their first experience with the OBWA. Remember that you need to build these relationships often times before even thinking of doing business.

Don’t forget to read the entire February bulletin so you know what to expect and how you might be able to help out at this meeting. We want to remind you that we have already started to make plans for our biggest event of the year, the Woman of the Year/ Young Woman of the Year 2020 Gala and we are looking for volunteers to help. We will especially need your support with either sponsorships or door prizes for this event. More details will follow. This is a great way to get exposure for your business since we usually have one hundred or more guests attend the gala.

The gala is a very empowering event for the nominees and for ALL the women involved. With the media coverage that is prevalent lately about important women’s issues, this event is a way to show the people in this community and beyond that nothing is more forceful than a woman with a passion or a love for something.

In closing, I look forward to seeing you on February 12 and I want to leave you with this quote by Sheryl Sandberg, “We need women at all levels, including the top, to change the dynamic, reshape the conversation, to make sure women’s voices are heard and heeded, not overlooked and ignored.” Do this in love.

.

Yours in friendship and business,

Shelle Hossack

As a paid member please don't forget to connect with the other members on the facebook page and continue to share what you are up to or what your needs, wants, and successes are. This is a great way to connect with the other women.
