Therapeutic Massage

Massage Therapy is the hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues in the body, specifically the muscles, connective tissues, tendons, ligaments, and joints. This type of therapy is used to develop, maintain, or rehabilitate physical function. Massage therapy is also used to relieve pain and increase the general wellness of the patient.

Registered Massage Therapists are fully trained to help relieve:

  • Inflammatory conditions (i.e. arthritis, tendonitis)
  • Stress relief,  depression & anxiety
  • Headaches & migraines
  • Muscle and muscle related conditions (i.e. spasms, sprains, strains, etc)
  • Back and neck pain, joint stiffness
  • Circulation and respiratory conditions, pregnancy-related discomfort
  • Post-injury and post-surgical rehabilitation

Prenatal Massage

Prenatal massage is similar to regular massage – it aims to relax tense muscles, ease sore spots, improve circulation and mobility, and just make you feel good. But prenatal massage is also customized to the needs of pregnant women and their changing bodies, and therapists trained in prenatal massage adjust their techniques accordingly.

Carrying a baby inside you changes your centre of gravity and puts a lot of stress on your back, neck, abdominal muscles, and shoulders. Pregnancy also relaxes your ligaments, meaning your pelvic joints are less stable, and it also changes your posture, pulling your pelvis forward. Add to that the extra weight you’re carrying and you may end up with an aching lower back.

A trained prenatal massage therapist knows where a pregnant woman’s sore and swollen spots are likely to be and may be able to provide some relief.  The therapist will also know which techniques and areas to avoid.

Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a holistic manual therapy that focuses on finding and treating the root causes of problems in order to guide the body to health. Osteopathic manual practitioners look at the person as a whole and an integration of all body systems: musculoskeletal, respiratory, cardiovascular, digestive, reproductive and nervous systems. Specific assessment and treatment with the use of osteopathic techniques can positively influence anatomy and physiology to help an individual achieve his/her goals.

Manual osteopathy is based on 4 basic principles:

Each structure in the body supports the body’s functions. If a structure is damaged, out of place, or otherwise not working properly, the body will not function at its best.

  1. The natural flow of the body’s fluids – lymphatic, vascular, and neurological – must be preserved and maintained.

  2. The human body is the sum of its parts. Its physical, emotional, social, spiritual, and cognitive systems don’t work independently - they work in harmony.

  3. When the body has no restrictions, it has the inherent ability to heal itself.

When all the body’s components are in balance, a person is complete and in total health. Osteopathic Manual Practitioners work to maintain, improve and restore the normal physiological function of interrelated body structures and systems, enhancing the body’s natural ability to heal itself.
