Community Theatre at its best! We are a not for profit Foundation presenting quality theatre to the greater Orillia area in Ontario Canada.

Mariposa Arts Theatre Foundation (MAT) is thrilled to announce its 2016-2017 season!

Once again, we are delighted to be offering one of our most exciting seasons yet.  Building on the success of our hugely popular fall 2015 production of You’ll Get Used to It!. The War Show, we begin our new season with Waiting for the Parade, followed by Death and the Maidenand ending with Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.

It will be a season to remember. We are sticking to what we are all about:  plays that entertain, challenge, and delight, while giving us something to think about.

Upcoming Shows:

Waiting for the Parade - Nov  10 - 20, 2016

By John Murrell

Set in Calgary during World War ll, this play reminds us that the wounded are not always at the front.  Five women gather to work for the war effort while the men they love are away.  In a series of episodic, snapshot vignettes, the play focuses on the women who shared a common purpose; to serve the war effort and perhaps more importantly, to survive the war.

Director:  James Fairbairn

Death and the Maiden -  Feb 9 – 19, 2017

By Ariel Dorfman

Tonight, a stranger calls.  For Paulina Sala, his voice triggers a memory she has long tried to suppress.  Through months in captivity under a brutal regime she never saw her captor’s face, but she heard his voice, calm yet menacing.  A voice she will never forget.  When her husband invites a stranger back to their isolated beach house, she hears that voice again.

Director:  Angela Munday

Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike – March 30 – April 9, 2017

By Christopher Durang

Christopher Durang pays cheeky homage to all things Chekhov.  The countryside bliss of siblings Vanya and Sonia is thrown into disarray when sister-turned-actress Masha returns home with her new, rather dimwitted, lover in tow, sparking a fiery bout of rivalry, lust and opportunity.

Director:  Michael Clipperton

FILM NIGHTS, now beginning its 21st year, is one of Orillia’s premier quality entertainments.  Last year 4689 audience members saw 13 films from the Toronto International Film Festival’s Film Circuit.  They enjoyed films from Canada and around the world, and were both entertained and challenged.

If you are not yet on our email list, and would like to receive regular informative reminders of upcoming films, please send your request to shows@mariposaartstheatre.com
