President’s Message                                                                             April 2023

Hello Everyone!!

I hope you and yours are keeping safe and feeling healthy as we enter our fourth month of 2023.  April showers bring May flowers  ??

We are looking forward to seeing you at our next dinner on Wednesday April 12 at Kelseys.  Doors open at 530pm in the Sam Brown Room. Leah has lined up a marvelous speaker for us, details listed below.

Reserve your spot now so we can plan numbers for booking our wonderful Kelsey’s staff. They work really hard for us so please finalize your reservation by Friday April 7th.     reserve@orilliabusinesswomen.com

Nomination packages are available for downloading on our website www.orilliabusinesswomen.com under The Women of the Year tab.  Cut off date for nominations is Saturday April 15th.  We will not be accepting any nomination packages after that date.

If you are able to sponsor financially or by donating a door prize, please feel free to email us at networking@orilliabusinesswomen.com and we will pass your contact information on to the correct person. You can also use the Online Payment tab to complete payment for your Sponsorship.

We will have a few positions open on the OBWA Executive Committee after June this year.

Sharon Van Noort-Retiring from President-will stay on as Treasurer and Past President.  As per our Policies & Procedures to be able to apply for the President position a member must have served 2 years on the Executive Committee. 

Shelle Hossack-Retiring from Past President and Social Media Coordinator-Position OPEN

Andrea Sullivan-Retiring as Event Coordinator-Position OPEN

Trisha Cuthbertson-Retiring as Membership Coordinator-Position OPEN.  Trisha will take on the role of Vice President-having served on the Executive Committee for one year.

Leah Cavanaugh-Staying on as Speaker Coordinator

Susan Zaroski-Staying on as Secretary

Executive Assistant position-OPEN

Due to the Gala being in June this year, elections will take place in September when we resume our dinner meetings.

Requirements and details on how to apply to fill a position on the Executive Committee will be available at the April meeting in the form of the current OBWA Policies & Procedures.

April Dinner Meeting will be held on April 12, 2023 at Kelseys Roadhouse Restaurant,

405 Memorial Ave. Orillia, L3V 0T7 

The restaurant will be following the Covid Protocol that is currently in place at their establishment

 You must e-mail OBWA at: reserve@orilliabusinesswomen.com by 3 p.m. Wednesday April 5, 2023
to reserve your dinner reservation. Our RSVP numbers are submitted to Kelseys that day as they need to know numbers for staffing. If you reserved your dinner spot and can’t attend please contact us right away so that we can try and fill the spot with someone else that may be on a waiting list.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. 

There will be an event charge
of $5 for members and $10 for non members
payable at the door

You will order and pay for your meal plus your tip at the restaurant


As always we welcome all women to the OBWA and we are encouraging our members to bring a guest or two to our April meeting!

We have brought back some of our old traditions to our OBWA Dinner Meetings!  Toonies for Toiletries where the money collected goes for hygiene products for those in need in the community! We will be collecting non-perishable food items and as well Clean Reusable Grocery Bags which we will donate to the Orillia Sharing Place. 
34 Pounds of Non-perishable food was collected at our March meeting!
As well we will be doing a 50/50 draw at each meeting! Winner of our March 50/50 of $80.00 was Sheelagh Gunn

7 p.m. Guest Speaker- Danielle Tisi – B.S. SC., LL.B President & Co-Owner of MCLEAN & DICKEY INSURANCE






Danielle purchased McLean & Dickey Insurance with her family in 2006, and it is an Orillia based insurance broker 
that has now been in operation for 100 years. 

McLean & Dickey also operate the brand of MD Marine Insurance, which is the largest insurance broker of pleasurecraft boats in Canada.   They have an office in Quebec and Alberta and leads a team of approximately 85 professionals.

Danielle started her career as an insurance broker first in Waterloo and then in Ottawa, while first completing her bachelor's degree in social science and then in Law at the University of Ottawa.  She practiced law for many years for Miller Thomson in the areas of corporate commercial law having a special focus on insurance law and mergers and acquisitions.  Danielle left private practice in 2004 and started consulting for various insurance companies on an independent basis, leading various project, ranging from risk management projects, gap analysis work, acquisitions and providing general assistance on a variety of issues and project.  Danielle is married and has three boys ranging in age from 14-22.

Danielle will share some of her background and her journey in her personal and business life.  She will also share some of the obstacles and challenges that she has faced in her various roles, whether wife, mother, business owner and volunteer in the community.  Finally, Danielle will discuss at a high level, what you need to consider as a business, from an insurance perspective, in protecting yourself and your business to ensure business continuity, in the event of an incident and not put your personal assets at risk.

Our Gala depends on Sponsorships from our members and from those in our Community as well as Door Prizes.
