Hi! I’m Billy Brown, Founder & CEO of Eat Learn Grow, and boy, do I ever have a great story to tell you!
I wasn’t always this awesome. What you see here has been cultivated from a rare breed of seed, planted a long time ago in the most fertile of soils. After much anticipation, he has emerged and is blossoming into something quite beautiful if I do say so myself.

My quest for knowledge began in early childhood. As an only child, I spent much time gazing into my dog Dekker’s eyes. I wondered if he could understand me the way I wanted to be understood. Did he get that I was trying to communicate with him? After many failed attempts at connecting with him, as well as the local songbirds and other creatures, I realized we humans are pretty unique in that we experience a high degree of consciousness. Yes, I thought about this stuff as a kid, and no, I’m not a friggin’ genius although I am a MASSIVE NERD.

I grew up swimming in Lake Couchiching (Orillia, Ontario, Canada), observing and interacting with the diverse life forms I encountered. I grew fascinated with Life as a whole and really wanted to explore it in greater detail. I passionately learned about science throughout my schooling, going on to study Zoology at the University of Guelph. I wanted to understand what made us humans unique; I wanted to understand what separated us from our closest relatives, the Chimpanzee.

Graduation came and I still had no answer; I was no closer to really comprehending what made us so darn special. At this time, my father passed away, and I really began to search for some answers. Where did he go? Where did his soul go? What happens after death? These are the biggest questions we can ask, and I became even more obsessed with them.

Eventually, I moved to Toronto, in the hopes that I would discover a career path that satisfied what I wanted to do with the majority of my time. As luck would have it, I discovered that I wanted to learn more about holistic nutrition, so that I could help people live more nourishing lives. My father’s death, in combination with my own health concerns, led me to appreciate even more the value of life.

When one studies food in a holistic manner, one cannot escape knowing and caring about the origins of one’s food. This is when the magic of Eat Learn Grow began to materialize. My focus shifted to our food production system, and I again became obsessed. I could not believe the scale of injustice that permeated our society and our planet. The health of humans and the health of the Earth were being sacrificed in the name of money. I couldn’t believe it. I couldn’t believe how detached we humans were from the very thing that gives us life. I couldn’t believe how outrageously stupid we were being. How could we not realize what we were creating, and how could we not realize what we were destroying as a result?

My brain and my very soul wanted to explode. I could not fathom what we as a species were doing to our precious and sacred home. I needed to do something about this. I needed to take what I’d learned and shine a light on it. And do it in a way that nobody else was, do it in a way that made it really stand out, do it in a way that would pull people in. Thankfully, I quickly learned that I was not alone in my burning desire to learn more and share my knowledge with the world.
