Habitat for Humanity Orillia/Lake Country has recently amalgamated with several other affiliates as Habitat for Humanity Ontario Gateway North. This regional affiliate serves a large area for North-Central and Near North Ontario including Orillia, Midland, Muskoka, Parry Sound, North Bay, Sudbury and is beginning to serve Timmins as well.

Habitat for Humanity Orillia/Lake Country was founded in 2005 and, since that time, with the support of a very generous community and our national sponsors, we have assisted four families to attain the goal of homeownership.

In late 2005, Habitat for Humanity Orillia/Lake Country was founded as a chapter of Habitat for Humanity Huronia. In 2010, Habitat for Humanity Orillia/Lake Country received its own charitable status number from the Canada Revenue Agency and on September 1, 2010 was granted affiliate status by Habitat for Humanity Canada.

Orillia/Lake Country’s first home was built in 2006 on a lot donated by the City of Orillia. Since then, homes have also been completed in Orillia (two single dwellings), Hawkestone (large single dwelling) and Brechin (duplex).

The Orillia ReStore, as well as office space, was opened after extensive renovations in October 2011. The Orillia ReStore was first located at 3835 Campbell Road off Highway 11 North.

In July of 2016 the Orillia ReStore moved to an in-town location at 220 James St. W off Memorial.

Our goal is to continue to build more homes for low-income working families and to break the cycle of poverty in our communities. The service area of Habitat for Humanity Ontario Gateway North Orillia Lake Country Chapter covers the Townships of Ramara, Severn, and Oro-Medonte, including the City of Orillia and Rama.

The Orillia Lake Country Chapter plans and manages HFHOGN build projects in the area, including raising funds, hosting events, organizing volunteers, selecting and maintaining contact with the partner families and working with the community.

Working Together as a Community, we can provide hope for low-income working families and help build brighter futures, especially for the children -- together we CAN AND WILL make a difference!

About Us

Habitat for Humanity Ontario Gateway North is a non-profit organization working to break the cycle of poverty by building homes and promoting affordable homeownership, through the mobilization of volunteers and community partners.

We work with people from all walks of life as we build simple, decent and affordable homes through volunteer labour, efficient management and donations of money and materials. Homes are sold to partner families at no profit – they are financed with affordable, no interest mortgages, geared to the families’ financial circumstance.

Habitat Restores sell new and gently used household and building products, with ReStore sales helping to cover administrative costs of the affiliate. This ensures donated dollars go directly to building more homes in each community in the region.

  • Vision: A world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live.
  • Mission: To mobilize volunteers and community partners in building affordable housing and promote homeownership as a means to breaking the cycle of poverty.
  • Values:
    • Housing for All: We believe that access to safe, decent and affordable housing is a basic human right that should be available to all.
    • Human Dignity: We believe in the worth and dignity of every human being. We respect the people we serve and those that help us in this effort and recognize them as our greatest resource.
    • Partnership: We believe we can best achieve our mission through meaningful and mutually beneficial partnerships with others.
    • Faith in Action: We believe that faith is lived through action. Building on our Christian foundation, we serve and work with people of all faiths and beliefs in a spirit of justice and compassion.
    • Diversity and Inclusiveness: We believe there is a role for everyone committed to our vision, mission and values and we seek to enrich our organization through diversity.

On September 1, 2014 Habitat for Humanity affiliates of North SimcoeOrillia Lake CountryMuskokaNorth Bay & Blue Sky Region and Sudbury District legally amalgamated into one new affiliate serving a large area of North Central & Northern Ontario. Administrative resources are centralized out of the regional office in Muskoka with chapters located in North Simcoe, Orillia, Parry Sound, North Bay, Sudbury and Timmins.

Though the region is vast, all of the chapters will continue to provide safe, decent and affordable housing to families in need in their own communities. The greatest benefit of this amalgamation is the ability of HFH Ontario Gateway North to serve more families, more efficiently.

Local dollars allocated through fundraising or from existing mortgages in each community or build will remain in that community, according to donor wishes. Priority needs will be assessed with unallocated donations. All ReStores will continue to operate in the respective communities and new stores are slated to be opened in the communities of Parry Sound, North Bay and Timmins
